DevOps / SRE engineer: alerts, deploys and failures I have actually tested

I set up monitoring, SLO alerting, log pipelines and safe deploys, then break them on purpose to see whether the alerts and rollbacks work.

Projects

  • 6 promtool scenarios pass

    slo-lab

Multi-window, multi-burn-rate SLO alerts for a synthetic checkout service. Unit tests cover a hard outage paging within 2 minutes, a 5-minute blip not paging repeatedly, and a slow burn raising only a ticket.

    • Prometheus
    • promtool
    • Python
  • 501 requests, 0 errors

    bluegreen-deploy

Blue/green deploy with GitHub Actions, Docker and Nginx. A switch under about 80 requests per second dropped no requests, and a failed health check rolls back automatically.

    • GitHub Actions
    • Docker
    • Nginx
  • p95 662 ms to 160 ms

    chaos-kit

Fault injection against a sample service. Naive retries made p95 latency worse under +500 ms of latency; a tuned timeout with cache fallback brought it to 160 ms. It also caught a bug in my own proxy.

    • Python
    • httpx
    • toxiproxy-style proxy
  • 3859 records, 0 dropped

    log-pipeline-lab

Fluent Bit to Loki pipeline with parsing, enrichment and 4 LogQL alert rules, all loaded by the Loki ruler.

    • Fluent Bit
    • Loki
    • LogQL
  • promtool rule tests pass

    noc-probe-dashboard

NOC monitoring with a small TCP, HTTP and ICMP probe exporter, Prometheus alert rules for target down, flapping, reboots and link saturation, and Grafana dashboards.

    • Python
    • Prometheus
    • Grafana
